Valentine Treat Jar
by Cyndi Roberts

This is a great craft to make with the kids! Fill with treats
for Teacher or Dad or Grandmom. Make several for everyone on your
Valentine's Day list!
Materials needed:
Wide-mouth jar - I recycled a marshmallow creme jar, but you
could use a regular canning jar.
Red or pink or Valentine print fabric - I needed a 12-inch square
for my jar
Narrow ribbon to match your fabric - about 18-24 inches
Stick-on heart cutouts available at your local discount store - or
make your own from craft foam, red construction paper, etc.
Small amount of polyester fiberfill for padding the top of the lid
Hot glue gun
Instructions:
Cut out a circle of fabric large enough to fit over
jar lid and leave a little overhang. For my marshmallow creme jar,
I cut out a
7 1/2" circle. I used pinking shears for a more decorative
edge.
Glue the fiberfill to the top of the lid. Then
position the fabric on top; tie the ribbon around the lid, holding the
fabric in place. If you choose, you could glue the ribbon and fabric
in place around
the edge of the lid, also.
Then just decorate the outside of the jar with the cutouts
of your choice. The children will love to do this part!
Fill with treats and you're done! For delicious
chocolates to put
in your jar try this recipe for "Chocolate Chip Candies"
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2 cups flour
1 can sweetened condensed milk
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 1/2 pounds chocolate candy coating
Cream the butter and sugar; add flour, sweetened condensed milk and
vanilla, stirring till well blended. Fold in chocolate chips and
pecans. Shape into balls about an inch in diameter.
Chill until firm.
Melt candy coating and dip balls in coating. Return to fridge
for about 15 minutes or until firm.
Makes about 60 candies
